Put Some Cross Training in Your Fitness Routine

Cross TrainingCross training is all the rage these days. It’s such a fitness buzz word in the area of fitness. But when it comes to cross training, what sort of fitness accessories do you need? So in this blog today, we are not going to discuss cross training machines like ellipticals, treadmills, upright bikes, etc. No, today we will dive into briefly some cross training equipment that is affordable and can really make your daily routine a bit more interesting and challenging.

Conditioning Ropes

Over the past few years you have been seeing what looks like a gigantic rope that could dock a cruise ship in gyms all around the country. These are what are known in the fitness industry as conditioning ropes. Basically, these ropes provide a great cardio and strength workout all in one with different moves and routines you can perform inside. These ropes provide excellent metabolic and strength training, second to none.

Jump Ropes

Another type of rope that is great for cross training is the basic jump rope – yeah, that hasn’t gone out of style. Jumping rope is a great way to burn calories, helps your balance, overall coordination and is good core work as well. Have you ever tried jumping rope for 5 minutes straight? It’s difficult, let me tell you. This is one of the lowest-tech types of workouts you can do today, but the benefits you can gain from jump roping regularly are anything but basic.

Plyo Boxes

Plyo boxes are a great way to work on your speed and explosiveness. The height of the boxes can range from 12″, all the way up to 36″. A warning about plyo boxes – start at a low height first before you try to vault over 3 feet vertically. There are many different routines you can do with plyo boxes from power jumps to quick jumps and everything in between. If you are getting a bit serious about your overall fitness and wish to work on your fast-twitch muscles, then plyo boxes would be a good choice.

Pull-Up Bars

Pull ups. We all used to dread doing these in grade school and middle school – they were just so hard. But, today there are accessories that will assist you with pull-ups that don’t use your entire body weight, which makes doing them a lot more possible. Pull-ups, like jump roping, is such a low-tech fitness workout, but with huge upside. Having a pull-up bar in your home is a great idea if you don’t have a lot of room for weights or other strength equipment. It’s amazing how strong you can get just by doing pull-ups. Don’t fear the pull-people!
