How to Stay Motivated During the Holidays

Workout Tip: Focus on Your Weaknesses

Looking for ways to stay motivated to keep you with your workouts this holiday season? We’re coming up on a new year, and given how busy the holidays are, combined with family obligations, traveling, and delicious meals, belt lines tend to expand a bit. With that, many will have New Year’s Resolutions that revolve around loosing weight and getting in shape – so, it’s no coincidence that gyms are packed once the holidays are over.

But, with the right program, you can get an early start on loosing those pounds while keeping new ones off, even before the holidays are over! Follow these steps to stay on track throughout the holiday season and avoid backtracking with your health and fitness.

Preplan your workouts

Plan your workouts a month in advance – it’ll help keep your motivation up, as well as keep you focused even when other holiday activities and pressures want to derail your plans. If you know you’ll be traveling, for example, plan those days to be your workout recovery days. Being proactive with your workout plans can keep you from missing days!

Get Up and Get Your Workouts Done Early

Getting your workouts done before all your other obligations hit not only keeps your workouts on track, but also can give you added energy during the day to get everything else done!

Find a Workout Buddy

If you’re trying to keep in shape during the holidays, there’s a good bet that you know someone else that also might want to join you – and having someone that you’re obligated to can keep you from making excuses to skip a workout. So, avoid those feelings of guilt – find a friend and keep each other committed and motivated to keep up with your workouts.

Use your Bodyweight

Even if you can’t get to the gym, you can use your own body weight to get a workout in. Try spending 20 minutes doing this circuit, and see how many sets you can accomplish: 10 Burpees, 20 Push Ups, 30 Jumping Jacks, 40 reps Jumping Rope, 30 Jump Squats, 20 Situps, 10 Reverse Lunges.

Finally, chart your progress

You started this by making a plan. Well, chart your progress against that plan – seeing yourself making progress is a great way to keep motivated!
