Fitness Club Membership vs. Home Gym Benefits

Precor EFX 447 Elliptical | Fitness 4 HomeWhy join a fitness club?
There are many good reasons for joining a fitness club:

  • Price – depending on your membership rates, you sometimes can find great deals of having all access to a gym’s facility for as little as $15-$25/ month.
  • Get in shape – You don’t have a home gym and you want to lose a few pounds, firm up that mid-section or try to get some definition in your muscles
  • Motivation – being around others who want to get in shape too can boost your spirits and keep you focused on your fitness goal.
  • Staff Support – There are personal trainers, spin instructors, yoga teachers, etc. at many of these fitness clubs, which can help you find other ways to get fit, which you may not have thought of yourself.
  • Variety of Equipment – Many gyms have an array of cardio, strength, core and flexibility equipment for you to use.
  • Social Benefits – There are group classes in many gyms which allows you to meet new people who are striving for similar fitness goals as yourself.

Why build your own home gym?
If it’s so good to be a member of a fitness club, then why build your own gym at home? Easy, because there are as many home gym benefits as there are with having a fitness club membership:

  • Convenience – Why do you need to wait in line for that treadmill, stair climber, elliptical or any piece of fitness equipment when you could simply buy your own and have access to the unit 24/7.
  • Time Saving – No need to jump in your car and drive to the gym when you have your own workout equipment in your home. This allows you to workout longer because there is no travel time when the gym is right within your four walls.
  • Timid or Unsure of yourself – Are you a bit overwhelmed by all the grunting, testosterone and these seemingly “fit” people you find at the gym? Maybe you haven’t worked out in a long time…maybe you’re not happy with the way you look and you’d feel much better working out on your own. This is a common feeling for many people, but don’t let your uneasiness of working out in a commercial gym stop you from getting into shape.
  • Take time to learn how to really use your equipment – When we’re at the gym many of us feel silly or awkward about asking how to use certain pieces of fitness equipment. Well, if you now own the functional trainer then you can take your time to learn how to use it correctly. Also, you should find a reputable fitness dealer, like Fitness 4 Home Superstorewho will take the time to show you all the functions of any of there pieces of cardio, strength or flexibility equipment in there showrooms.

Social or serious?
Look, there is nothing wrong with wanting to meet people while you workout, but if you only have a finite amount of time to workout regularly and you really do want to get in shape, then you don’t have the luxury of chit-chat. Having your own workout facility in your home keeps you focused without all the distractions that can come from being at a fitness center.

Motivation and Excuses
Whether you join a commercial gym or buy your own fitness equipment, there still will be that little voice in your head, from time to time, that tells you it’s alright to miss your workout today or I just don’t have the energy to workout tonight after a long day. And while excuses and motivation will wane, it may be harder to make excuses when the elliptical machine or weight bench is staring you in the face when you come home.
