We’re already halfway through January, and thare are some fitness trends that are already have been predicted to help shape this new year. This past November, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) predicted its top twenty fitness trends of 2016 in its 10th Annual Survey of 2,800 health and fitness professionals. Here’s some of the top fitness trends to keep an eye out for.

Strength Training

We’re talking about weight lifting here – where you use weight resistance to strengthen and build your musculoskeletal system. There are three types of weight resistance you can use for this – one of which we’ll mention in a moment (i.e. Body Weight Training). The other two are Free Weight training (which means you use barbells and / or dumbells in conjunction with a weight bench) and Selectorized Weight training (which means you use equipment like a home gym or functional trainer, which has the weights incorporated into the equipment). Free Weights are wonderful if you have the room in your home, but if your pressed for space, equipment like the TuffStuff SPT-6X Six-Pak Trainer allow you to do a multitdue of strength exersizes on one single piece of equipment that is also great for your home, as it take up very little floor space.

Body Weight training

Body weight training is where you use your own body weight as a means of resistance to build muscle and strengthen your body. One of the great things about body weight training using equipment like the TRX Suspension Training system is that it’s portable and takes up very little space – great for keeping your workouts going while on vacation or traveling on business. High Intensity Interval Training

High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT, refers to the technique of alternating periods of high-intensity exercise with short rest periods for a specific number of sets. These are short, intense bursts of cardio strength-based movements using a variety of tools – which you can do either strength equipment, or doing interval training on a treadmill, elliptical, or exercise bike.

Exercise + Nutrition for Weight Loss

We all try diets to loose weight, But, in addition to nutrition, exercise is a key component of a proper weight loss program. Trends for 2016 include better realization and incorporation of exercise into diet plans to promote not only weight loss, but an overall healthy lifestyle.
