Why Buy Fitness Equipment locally?

Why Buy Fitness Equipment locally?

We’re all looking for the best deal. We all want to save money. And, sometimes, buying online or from a big-box store may get you a good deal – at least in the short run. But, have you considered the benefits of purchasing fitness equipment from a local store – one that is part of your local community?

Whether it’s a small town or in the biggest city, we all prefer to work with people we trust. And, we lament the loss of that local store. That local business that we used to go into, the one where you knew the owner, and knew that although they were building a business, they couldn’t do that without your support and loyalty. Those types of businesses have slowly been disappearing across the American landscape – and we’ve all noticed it in our local community.

That local business you see on the corner – when you support them, you support your entire community. That store had to get signage for their storefront. They needed maintenance on their equipment. They needed business cards and brochures printed. They needed architects and contractors for construction. All those goods and services they needed to start their business and keep it going, also use other local businesses. So, for example, when you buy that treadmill from a big box store or national chain store – you’ve made it more difficult for all those other local businesses that rely on your local, independently owned fitness equipment store to stay in business.

Your local businesses also are fine-tuned to meet the needs of their local community. Here in Arizona, if you walk into a national department store in the fall, you’ll see the fall clothing lines coming out – and many of the clothing is far too warm for Arizona. That’s because the buyers for that national store is buying for all stores, no matter what the local communities needs are for Arizona. But that local, independent store knows that to survive, they need to carry products that their local economy requires. So, as a customer, you’re more likely to truly get your money’s worth and be happy with your purchase, rather than compromising just to save a few dollars at a national chain store.

Finally – think about the service you get from a national store vs. a local store. You may save a few dollars with a national chain. But, if you have problem with your purchase – that national chain, in order to save money, may outsource their customer service offshore – so you end up dealing with someone half the planet away, who is just “doing their job”, and has no real connection you your purchase. Contrast that with your local, independent store. More than likely, the person that sold you that product – is the one you’ll talk to if you have a problem. They know that if they help you – you’ll probably buy from them again. It’s in their best interest to make sure they resolve any issues that you have – because if you have a good experience, you may tell a few people about it – but if you have a bad experience, you’ll tell everybody! Their reputation is on the line – and they are motivated to make things right. So, even if you’ve saved a few dollars buying from a big box store or national retailer, how much more will you gain with a local store when you have questions or issues?
