Benefits of a Vibration Trainer for Fitness

Why use a vibration trainer? The idea behind a vibration trainer is that you’re getting whole-body vibration as part of your workout. With whole-body vibration, you stand, sit or lie on vibration trainer (that normally has a vibrating platform). As the plate vibrates, it transmits that vibration energy to your body, forcing your muscles to contract and relax dozens of times each second – causing you to feel as if you’re exerting yourself.

Those that use a vibration trainer say that spending as little as 15 minutes a day of whole-body vibration three times a week may aid weight loss, burn fat, improve flexibility, enhance blood flow, reduce muscle soreness after exercise, build strength and decrease the stress hormone cortisol.

Whole body vibration with a trainer is not designed to replace other types of exercises such as walking, biking, or swimming. What it can do is improve the effectiveness of those workouts. Your muscles contract and relax in a limited fashion while working out. Adding a vibration trainer to those workouts can provide additional muscle toning and conditioning – this is especially good if you have health restrictions that would keep you from engaging in more strenuous exercises.

Whole-body vibration may also have a role beyond sports and fitness. Some research shows that whole-body vibration, when performed correctly and under medical supervision when needed, can:

  • Reduce back pain
  • Improve strength and balance in older adults
  • Reduce bone loss
