Secrets to Staying Fit During the Holidays

Secrets to Staying Fit During the Holidays by Fitness 4 Home

With the holiday season now upon us, you’re now faced with two separate things that can affect your weight and fitness level. First is a plethora of high calorie food, and second is a lack of time to stay fit. Here’s some secrets to staying fit during the holidays.

Don’t Stop Moving – With the convenience of on-line shopping, you get to avoid fighting crowds at the mall. But this also means you may spend that much more time than normal just sitting for prolonged periods of time. Try getting up for just 5 minutes every hour and performing a light activity can help keep your metabolism up.

Have a Plan – Take a few minutes at the beginning of the week, and plan a workout or some physical activity ahead of time. If you have already planned your schedule around staying fit, you’re more likely to stick with your workout plan.

Stay Hydrated – Most people, normally, are actually dehydrated. And, many times you feel hungry, you’re actually thirsty. Staying hydrated can keep hunger pains away, as well as make you less likely to snack on high calorie foods.

Be Creative – If you’re used to fulfilling a set workout plan, and now with the holidays, the time you had to workout is becoming compromised, stop worrying about completing your normal workout schedule. Mix things up, and take the approach that some workout is better than no workout. This will make it less likely that you’ll miss your workouts, and you’ll stay fit throughout the holiday season.

If You Indulge, Make it Short – If you do have a day during the holiday’s where you overindulge, that’s fine. Enjoy the holiday. One day won’t make or break your plan. Just make sure that the next day, you don’t start a pattern of indulging – just skip the leftovers, and get back on your plan.

Don’t Punish Yourself – The holidays are a wonderful time of year to share with your friends and family. So, don’t spend too much time worrying about eating too much or missing too many workouts. Enjoy your moments – just enjoy in moderation. Then go enjoy a great workout the next day!
