Holiday Eating Tips to Avoid Gaining Weight

Holiday Eating Tips to Avoid Gaining Weight

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the season brings food. Big, carb-loaded meals, it’s easy to start the new year with a few extra pounds. Here’s some holiday eating tips to avoid gaining weight.

First, to be fair, it’s a misconception that you’ll gain 10 pounds. The reality is the average weight gain between Thanksgiving and the New Year is normally just over a pound. This doesn’t mean you can let your guard down – you still need to exercise portion control. Just know that if you have a meal where you indulge a bit, it’s not going to add 5 pounds to your frame!

Don’t Skip Meals – Here’s the problem with skipping meals. It makes you hungry, and you’re more likely to binge later. If you think that you’re going to be having a holiday meal where you might be at risk for binge eating, it’s better to eat normal meals, as you’ll then be less inclined to overeat due to hunger.

Watch the appetizers! – Many appetizers are about 60 calories – per bite! So, if you have 5 bites of one appetizer, that’s 300 calories. If there are multiple appetizers, you may want to keep count of the amount you place on your plate to keep your overall calorie count down.

Skip Desert! – That pie is tempting. But, if your goal is to avoid gaining weight during the holidays, it may be better to feel a little guilt from avoiding desert, than to add a couple hundred extra calories to meals through the holiday season.

Keep exercising! – Time constraints make it hard to hit the gym. So, go for a morning walk, keep moving through the day, or put together a home gym so you can keep your workouts going when you do have time.

And, if you need help figuring out the best way to put together a basic home gym, Fitness 4 Home Superstore is here to help! With 3 Phoenix-area locations, we can help you find the best cardio equipment, strength equipment, and fitness accessories to help you keep off that holiday weight gain.
