So you’re looking for high-energy, high protein bars. But all the packaged ones are full of additives. So – make your own! Their easy, healthy – and far cheaper than buying them at the store. And, unlike store bought energy bars, if you are sensitive to dairy products or gluten, these are a much better choice!
This recipe is Paleo friendly, and much healthier than if you get them off the shelf. And, even better – using organic ingredients like grass-fed or organic beef adds extra nutrients while avoiding antibotics and hormones found in lesser cuts of meat.
Here’s a simple recipe for High-Energy Protein Bars. Go for the leanest steak you can find. And if you can’t find liquid amnios, you can use soy sauce.
High-Energy Protein Bars
- 10 oz. round steak (eye, top, or bottom cut)
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup liquid aminos
- ¼ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 3 Tbsp chia, hemp, or sesame seeds
- 2 tsp lemon zest
- ½ tsp salt
Trim any fat from the meat and cut it into 1-inch cubes. Place on a parchment paper–lined baking sheet and freeze until edges are stiff but not frozen all the way through. This should take about 20 minutes, after which, place the meat and crandberries in a food processor. Pulse until corsely ground, then add in the remaining ingredients and pulse until fully blended.
In a 8×8″ square baking pan, line it with parchment paper, leaving a 1″ overhang. Place the meat mixture into the pan and spread evenly. Bake for 30 minutes. Pour off any juices that may be on top. Then bake for another 45-50 minutes. Let cool before lifting out and cutting into bars. Keeps chilled for up to 1 week.
