Fitness Trends – Functional Training

TRX Suspension Training StrapsWhat is functional training? Simply put, it’s a way for you to use your own body weight and body movements to build strength, stability, power, mobility, flexibility and endurance. And, it’s a training regime that you can do in your home, at the gym, or while traveling. It’s a great way to keep consistent in your workouts!

First, you need the proper equipment, though. You need equipment that allows you to do basic functional movements – movements like pulling, pushing, squatting, rotating, walking, and carrying. This is why it’s called “Functional Training” – it’s training using the same movements you use in your daily life, but  the exercises improve on your proficiency in these movements to enhance how you do these movements. And, the proper equipment can help you push your body beyond what it normally does with these movements during the day.

The equipment you want to look for is simple. You can start with cross training equipment such as plyo boxes jump ropes, and pull up bars. You can also use Balance & Stability Equipment, Rubber Resistance Equipment – and the best choice – Suspension Trainers (like the TRX Home Suspension Trainer).

Finally – talk to a good personal trainer, ask at your gym, or look online for suggestions on Functional Training Workouts – and find a routine that meets your needs.
