Building a Home Gym on a Budget

Building a Home Gym on a Budget

Once upon a time, you were in shape. You could do endless pushups and sit-ups, run long distances without even getting winded, and you looked great. Now…maybe that’s not your reality any more. You want to get back into shape. You know what you need to do. But, finding the time to workout is harder than it used to be. Going to the gym is one more stop out of your way. If you could workout at home, then you could fit exercise into your schedule. Here’s some tips for building a home gym on a budget, allowing you to start getting back into shape quickly!

First – the goal should be to build a gym that is effective toward you accomplishing your fitness goals. You already have a place to hang your clothes – spending money on home gym equipment, only to have them act more as a coat rack, is obviously not what you’re looking to accomplish. So, the first tip is simple. Start small. Then build onto your gym as your needs dictate, and your budget allows.

Second – make the space your own. Just like setting up a home office – your home gym should be a place where you can escape to and concentrate on your workout, rather than battling distractions that keep you from having an effective workout. Plus, being able to focus on your form and technique will not only help you be more effective, but also may help you avoid injury.

Third – gyms don’t have to be big! For example, take a look a the TuffStuff SPT-6B Six-Pak Trainer. It takes up only about 3′ x 5′ of floor space, yet can give you a full strength workout. You can get a great cardio workout with something like the Helix H1000 Touch Lateral Trainer. It fits into a 3′ x 4′ space, yet you get a full lower and upper body workout (plus it’s great for building killer glutes!). Don’t have the budget for either of these pieces of equipment? Start small with the TRX Suspension Trainer – portable, can be hooked into a door in your workout area, and you can still get a full body workout with it!
