Workout Tip: Recruit a Workout Partner

Recruit a Workout Partner

Studies have shown that working out with a partner increase the odds that you will stick to your routine and meet your fitness goals. A workout partner keeps you accountable. Knowing they are counting on you may prevent you from skipping workouts or slacking off on your schedule.

Benefits of a Workout Partner

Having a workout partner to join you in your fitness routine offers several benefits. They can serve as your cheerleader and/or drill sergeant (whichever works best for your personality), to help motivate you to keep going when you start to lose steam.

A workout partner also obviously keeps you company, which can help keep you from getting bored. The distraction can also help your workouts seem to go faster. Also, for some exercises it may be helpful or even necessary, from a safety standpoint, to have someone else there to serve as your spotter.

Finding a Workout Partner

Most likely, it won’t be too hard to find someone who is willing to be your workout partner. You likely know many people who share your interest in getting in better shape, improving their health or increasing strength. If you ask around, you will probably get several volunteers—and there’s a good chance that someone you know has also been trying to get motivated to start (or stick with) a workout routine, so they may be glad you asked.

You may also be able to use social media to find workout partners in your area, or even to coordinate a fitness club or motivational group. You can use online tools such as Meetup to connect with others who are looking for workout groups or partners.

Being a Good Workout Partner

Once you have found your workout partner(s), you each should make it a priority to hold up your end of the bargain. Create a routine or schedule, and do everything possible to stick to it. Take some time in the beginning to discuss your goals, workout personality and other issues that may be important to creating the best plan to work together.

Once you get started, remember that your workout partner is relying on you just as much as you are counting on them. If you continually slack off or are a no-show at workouts, you are hurting your partner as much as yourself.

You and your workout partner will both benefit from having the right fitness equipment. You can find all of the home fitness equipment you need for your Phoenix home at Fitness 4 Home Superstore.
