Weight Loss Tips for Summer

Weight Loss Tips for SummerWith summer temperatures here in Phoenix over 100 degrees, keeping in shape (and keeping off those extra pounds) can be problematic. It’s can become much simpler to binge-watch shows on Netflix, while kicking back on your couch, and not realize that extra snacking can lead to extra pounds. Here’s some weight loss tips to counter any chance you’ll gain weight during these hot, summer months!

Weight Loss Tips

  • Eat a high protein breakfast within an hour of waking up.
  • Replace sodas, sweetened teas, and other sugar-filled drinks with water. You’ll stay better hydrated, while avoiding those useless calories.
  • Realize that dehydration may be masked as hunger – so stay hydrated – especially prior to going to the grocery store!
  • Eat smaller portion sizes during meals. Smaller plates, bowls, and glasses help!
  • Snack on vegetables, rather than carbohydrate-loaded snacks. This can also help your hydration levels. Plus, the fiber in veggies can help you feel full faster, avoiding extra calories.
  • Have a snack of veggies and hummus or fruit and yogurt before you go to a party or out for dinner- you will be more in control
  • Ask the server to package up half of your meal before he/she brings in out
  • Always include protein in your meals and snacks– protein is the component of your meal that keeps you fuller longer and controls your appetite and blood sugar throughout the day
  • Try eating every 3-4 hours instead of eating every 5-6
  • If you are feeling hungry, don’t ignore those hunger cues. Your body is telling you that you are hungry because it needs nourishment. If you ignore those physical hunger cues, you are more likely to over consume at your next meal or snack
  • Try to make 50% of your meal veggies at lunch and supper
  • Eat less packages/processed foods and make more of your meals and snacks from scratch
  • Make your breakfast and lunch the larger meals of your day and your supper a smaller meal
  • Move your body everyday in a way that makes you happy. Try to get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes
  • Take your workouts inside. Rather than working out in the heat, working out indoors can help you not only better regulate your temperature and avoid dehydration, you’ll be able to work out longer, burning more calories.

And, the best way to take those workouts indoors is with your own home gym equipment. Not only will you avoid waiting on a piece of equipment at the gym, you know your own equipment is clean and sanitary! Not to mention, you can workout when you feel like it, rather than having to motivate yourself to go out in the heat to get to the gym!
