Secrets to a Perfect Kettlebell Workout

Secrets to a Perfect Kettlebell WorkoutKettlesbells are a proven fitness system used by professional athletes as well as branches of the military. Developed by the Russians, and popularized by Pavel Tsatsouline (a former Soviet Special Forces instructor and the go-to expert for elite U.S. Special Operations units) – Kettlebells can improve your performance as well. Now – how to make that happen!

Train Barefoot – Not only does this improve your stability while performing your workout, but being able to grip the ground also benefits your glutes and hamstrings!

Don’t Rush – The primary movement with a kettlebell is a swing. Gripping that handle and swinging it takes practice! Make sure you have that movement down before you add extra intensity. Shoot for a perfect swing every time – and you’ll be targeting extra stabilizer muscles that other workouts miss – increasing your overall results!

Keep your arms straight! – Bending your arms can cause injury. Lock your arms during your swings – lock your elbows and tense your triceps. Not only does this keep your elbows safe, but also keeps you from wasting energy.

Breathe! – Focus on  your breathing. This will accomplish a number of things. First – it’ll help you slow down, and increase the impact the swing has on your abs while protecting your spine. Inhale at the bottom of your stroke, and exhale as you swing the kettlebell up.

Make it snap! – When you swing up the kettlebell, rather than using your arms to lift it – you want to snap your hips forward to rock the kettlebell upward. It should “float” at the top of the swing – if it feels weightless for a second at the top of the swing – you’re doing it right!
