Fitness Resolutions – Start Now Before The New Year!

Fitness Resolutions - Start Now Before The New Year!

With the holidays upon us, and the end of the year quickly approaching, most people make New Year’s Resolutions, especially related to getting rid of those extra pounds put on over the holidays. Unfortunately, these resolutions quickly go by the wayside within a month or so after the new year. It’s important to set goals that are realistic – so don’t wait to set your fitness resolutions – start now before the new year begins!

Of course, everybody has the same idea about getting in shape after the holidays. That’s why January is usually the most crowded month of the year at your local gym. Trying to find a machine to workout on can be problematic – so you may want to take advantage of holiday sales at your local fitness store (like Fitness 4 Home Superstore) – this way, you won’t find excuses to skip your workouts – you can fit them in at any time while at home.

Next, set workout goals that are achievable. Start small, and as you gain strength and endurance, you can add weight, add time, add sets & reps to continue your progress while avoiding injury. If you set some practical fitness goals before the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, there will be nothing stopping you from realizing those intentions in the weeks to come.

Once you’ve started your workouts, here’s some ways to keep yourself motivated to stay with your fitness resolutions:

Get Moving Daily
If you hate lifting weights, go for a walk, run on a treadmill, do something that gets your body moving. You’ll keep your metabolism up, you’ll feel better, and you’ll have fun with your workouts, keeping your motivation up for that next day.

Get Outside Your Comfort Zone
At the same time, you need to challenge yourself as well. If you’ve always done cardio, adding strength training you our workouts can help you gain strength and also build endurance. If you’ve avoided cardio, do one extra day worth instead of your normal workout. Changing up your workout can benefit you both physically and mentally, and keep your workuts from getting boring!

Get More Sleep
Yes, sleep is an important component to your workout plan. Your body needs rest to recover from your workouts. Your body doesn’t gain muscle during your workouts – it gains strength when rebuilding micro-tears from your past workout while you rest. So, getting more sleep will help you recover faster, and give you more energy for tomorrow’s workout as well!
